Linda Glenn MVB MRCVS

Linda cares passionately about her clients and patients and has always been dedicated to providing the highest possible standard of care. In 2008, this standard of care was nationally recognised when Linda had the honour of being one of three finalists in the UK Vet of the Year award.

Dedicated to improving the health and welfare of all animals, Linda is delighted to work closely with Assisi Animal Sanctuary, German Shepherd RRR, Bangor Seafront Cats and the Edward Trust to help the less fortunate.

Along with her son, Owen, Linda has also been fortunate to be involved in welfare projects worldwide, working with Pandas in the Panda Research and Breeding program in Chengdhu, China and with rescued elephants in Jaipur, India. They have also visited welfare projects involving Orangutan rescue in Sepilok, Borneo and elephants in Sri Lanka.

When travelling in Tanzania, Linda and Owen became aware of Rabies and animal welfare problems in Sunga District in the Usambara Mountains. This is a very poor, isolated group of villages above 2000m with poor road connections. The nearest large town, Lushoto, is 2.5hours down the mountain and there is no local Veterinary support. Many local children die from Rabies. While the local people want to do the best for their animals, it is a very poor community and the standard of education is very low.

Working with Mambo Viewpoint, an ecolodge dedicated to improving the standard of living, health and education of local people, Linda and Owen established a Rabies vaccination program, annually vaccinating over 200 dogs. This has reduced the risk of children being bitten. They also trained a man from each Wafugagi ( co operative) to be an Auxiliary Officer, visiting local farmers to give advice on animal housing, nutrition and health care. The Auxiliary Officers are also invaluable assisting vaccinating over 600 cattle, sheep and goats against Anthrax and Blackleg. Linda and Owen also hold village meetings to discuss the problems the local people are having and ensure that the project is addressing the issues that are concerning them.

Linda and Owen visit Tanzania for a month most years to run the vaccination programs, train more advisors and address emerging disease and welfare problems. The aim is that the project is self sustaining and to this end, the Auxiliary Officers are employed to continue visiting farmers and act as Advisors. The project has been very successful and the local government is considering using it as a template to improve animal welfare in other districts.
